Message to Families

After the recent government action towards Trinity Christian School and Wisdom Homeschooling, a few families have expressed some concern about whether Education Unlimited (EU) and Harvest Baptist Academy (HBA) could face similar criticisms from Alberta Education.

We would like to assure everyone that there is no need to worry as we take great care both in how we structure our operation, and in balancing responsibilities between Education Unlimited and Harvest Baptist Academy, to ensure that we meticulously follow government directives without compromising our faith and principles.

Since the beginning of Education Unlimited’s relationship with Harvest Baptist Academy, Alberta Education has performed three intensive audits covering both the school’s home education program and Education Unlimited’s management system, and we are pleased to inform you that we received very high marks for the accuracy and accountability we work to maintain.

Please note the following:

  • HBA functions as the home education provider who is directly responsible for all of its programs, as directed by Alberta Education.  EU provides digital tools and systems for managing HBA’s home education program, as well as administrative services, support, and home education expertise.
  • Students are registered with and accepted by HBA, and all teachers and professional and administrative staff are contracted with and paid by HBA.
  • Parent resource funding is under the direct control and supervision of HBA with all payments made by the school, from the school’s account.  All unused parent resource funding remains with and under the control of the school, NOT Education Unlimited.
  • Since we have always avoided all forms of public programming, including online, distance learning, blended programming and high school accreditation, and as we refuse to bring school ideology to the home, we do not have any issue with the government’s recent move to clean-up programming violations. We have been consistently uncompromising in defending and advancing parental authority for traditional home education within a Christian, Bible-based world view without excluding people with other perspectives.
  • In addition to providing management for HBA, EU provides many additional services (see our Resources section) which are open to the entire home educating community, and for nearly thirty years, our Director, Léo Gaumont (see LeoGaumont.com), has tirelessly and passionately been an ambassador for traditional home education.

The uncertain situation created by the Alberta government’s recent actions is a source of confusion and fear for many home educating families.  Education Unlimited is open and willing to help any families who feel they need assistance.

We trust this addresses any concerns you may have.  Please feel free to share this information with any others who may have questions about how we make a difference by being different.
